Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology Srinagar has secured national recognition after its M-Tech scholar, Womika Khan, was awarded the prestigious IndiaAI Fellowship for 2025–26.
Womika, a Computer Science and Engineering student, has been awarded a fellowship for her research on “Trustworthy AI: Investigating and Mitigating Bias in Large Language Models,” supervised by Dr. Tawseef Ayoub Shaikh. This research addresses the critical issue of bias in artificial intelligence systems, which is increasingly relevant as AI tools are utilized in real-world decision-making processes. Dr. Tawseef highlighted the competitive nature of the fellowship selection, emphasizing the growing prominence of NIT Srinagar in advanced technology research. Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, described the achievement as a milestone for the institution, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a robust research and innovation ecosystem. He noted that such accomplishments not only enhance the institute’s standing in emerging fields like artificial intelligence but also inspire other students to engage in impactful research. Prof. Atikur Rehman, the Institute Registrar, remarked that the fellowship signifies the academic excellence at NIT Srinagar, showcasing the dedication of both scholars and faculty in tackling complex, real-world challenges through innovative solutions. Dr. Shaima Qureshi, Head of the CSE Department, praised the achievement as a significant advancement toward developing responsible AI systems. She emphasized the importance of research in trustworthy AI to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI technologies, reflecting the department’s commitment to meaningful and socially relevant innovation. The IndiaAI Fellowship aims to cultivate talent in artificial intelligence and enhance India’s capabilities in next-generation technologies.
