Jammu| April, 07: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organized an outreach programme titled “Digital Shield: Online Safety Awareness Program for Students” under the aegis of Community Connect (Dean Outreach).
The programme focused on enhancing awareness of cyber safety, responsible digital behavior, and career opportunities in Computer Science and Engineering. It saw enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty members. Sessions were led by Dr. Iraq Ahmad Reshi, Ms. Sabha Mushtaq, and Ms. Sheebah Raheem, who addressed safe online practices and identified prevalent cyber crimes such as phishing, identity theft, and social media fraud. They underscored the significance of strong passwords, safeguarding personal information, ethical digital conduct, and responsible internet usage. Additionally, the speakers introduced students to emerging career fields, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data science, and software development. Dr. Asif Ali Banka, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, highlighted the importance of such outreach initiatives in equipping young students with the necessary awareness and skills to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sahil Sholla, Coordinator Outreach, and concluded with an interactive session where students engaged with the speakers on cybersecurity practices and career-related inquiries.
