Srinagar :The town of Pattan is in mourning following the demise of Asha Begum, popularly known as Asha Boba, a respected social activist and deeply spiritual personality known for her lifelong service to the community.

Born into an educated family and married into a well-established household in Pattan, Asha Begum was known from an early age for her devout nature. She remained steadfast in her religious practices, regularly observing fasts and offering prayers, earning admiration for her piety and discipline.

A woman of remarkable qualities, she was widely regarded for her grace, wisdom, courage, and gentle demeanor. Blessed with a melodious voice, she often recited verses of the renowned Kashmiri poet Habba Khatoon, reflecting her deep connection with Kashmir’s rich Sufi tradition. Her association with saints and spiritual mentors further enriched her personality and inspired many.

Asha Begum played a pioneering role in promoting Pashmina spinning in Pattan, empowering thousands of women by equipping them with skills for sustainable livelihoods. Beyond economic empowerment, she mentored women in leading dignified lives inspired by the teachings of Hazrat Fatima.

Known for her generosity and selflessness, she extended help to women in all aspects of life. Among her most noble contributions was performing the last rites of deceased women without accepting any compensation, and she also trained others in carrying out this sacred duty.

She remained actively involved in community welfare and contributed significantly to the affairs of the Jamia Masjid in Pattan. Her inclusive approach and compassionate nature earned her love and respect across communities, irrespective of caste or religion.

Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew her. She is remembered as a beacon of kindness, strength, and devotion.
