Srinagar : Police on Thursday destroyed illegal poppy cultivation and registered multiple cases across Anantnag, Sopore, and Pulwama districts.
According to police statement issued here on Thursday in Anantnag, Police Station Kokernag acted on credible inputs about illicit opium poppy cultivation at NaruporaChek. A case (FIR No. 37/2025) under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act was registered. A joint team of police, Executive Magistrate, and Agriculture Department officials visited the site and carried out necessary action.
In Sopore, Police Station Bomai registered FIR No. 33/2026 following reports of illegal poppy cultivation at Eddiepora. A joint team comprising Police, Excise, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Revenue departments conducted a destruction drive in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, ZaingeerBomai. The illicit crop was destroyed and samples were seized for analysis.
In Pulwama, police detected and destroyed illegal cultivation in Monghama village. FIR No. 69/2026 was registered at Police Station Pulwama, and one individual was arrested. The operation was conducted in coordination with Excise, Agriculture, and Revenue officials.
Police reiterated its commitment to eradicating the drug menace and urged the public to share information about illegal narcotic activities.
