Awantipora : The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) recently hosted a workshop led by Rouf Fida, a Video Producer from Deutsche Welle.

The  event was part of the department’s Industry Connect initiative, designed to equip media students with valuable insights into transforming reports into engaging visual narratives. Titled “Journey of a Frame: From Report to Story,” the workshop focused on the essential principles of visual storytelling. Fida emphasized the importance of starting with a clear concept before filming, ensuring that each shot serves a specific purpose. He highlighted the significance of composition elements such as framing, balance, and movement, which contribute to the overall effectiveness of a visual story. Additionally, Fida stressed the critical role of audio in storytelling, noting that it enhances both immersion and credibility. Fida also pointed out that compelling narratives are grounded in real human experiences, emotions, and stories. He encouraged students to capture a diverse range of shots and cutaways to create a coherent and engaging narrative. The workshop included practical exercises and interactive discussions, allowing students to actively participate in various aspects of video production. A departmental profile video was also screened during the event, showcasing the department’s initiatives and achievements.
