Sangerwani : Residents of Sangerwani and its adjoining areas, including Inderwali, Baghander, and Abhama, are grappling with persistent electricity issues, marked by unscheduled curtailments and low voltage, severely disrupting daily life.
Locals say the absence of a fixed power schedule and frequent outages have made electricity supply unpredictable, particularly during night hours when students rely on it the most.
“Despite paying electricity bills on time, we are left without a proper schedule or stable voltage,” said a local resident, expressing frustration over the situation.
Resident of sangerwani Shabir Ahmad Koli termed the situation a “serious concern,” questioning the lack of planning in power distribution. He noted that frequent outages and weak voltage are affecting education, businesses, and even basic household activities.
Another social worker, Chowdhary Danish Ali, highlighted the plight of tribal communities in the region. “Families migrate with their cattle for months, yet they are charged full electricity bills. The prepaid meter system is also impractical here due to poor network and lack of access to smartphones,” he said, advocating for a uniform and affordable flat rate for such areas.
Residents of Baghander echoed similar concerns, stating that extremely low voltage has rendered electricity nearly unusable. “Even charging phones or lighting bulbs has become difficult,” said a social worker Syed shakir maqbool, adding that unannounced power cuts and high bills have further aggravated the crisis.
They also pointed out infrastructural issues, including poorly placed electricity poles on narrow link roads, posing risks to public safety. Locals have urged authorities to introduce metered electricity to ensure fair billing and better regulation.
Responding to the concerns, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) PDD Rajpora, Showkat Hussain, said that curtailments due to system contrains have been reduced from eight hours to six hours post Augmentationof 33/11 kV Shadimarg Recieving station and 11 kV feeder segregation has been done to improve the supply.
“Separate feeders have been set up for Sangerwani areas to minimize outages,” he said, adding that recent weather-related faults were promptly addressed.
He further stated that over 100 new transformers are planned to tackle low voltage issues and that electricity bills are rational. “There are no extra charges, and most bills range between Rs 227 to Rs 520,” he clarified, assuring that efforts are underway to improve supply and minimize curtailments in the future.
