Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested 17 drug peddlers in multiple operations across Anantnag, Shopian, Budgam and Kulgam, recovering significant quantities of contraband.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday Police said that in Anantnag, police recovered 6.614 kg of charas during a raid in Srigufwara. Several other arrests were made with recoveries ranging from small quantities to over 300 grams of charas and charas powder. In Shopian, one accused was held with 120 grams of charas-like substance. In Budgam, two persons were arrested with over 1.1 kg of charas.In Kulgam, 10 peddlers were arrested in separate operations, with recoveries including heroin, charas, cannabis, poppy straw, and brown sugar. Police also destroyed poppy cultivation on a large tract of land in Sopat village. Cases have been registered at respective police stations and investigations are underway to trace larger networks.
