Jammu : A Hindi play titled “Miss World Undeclared,” written by Satyendra Shrivastava and directed by Neeraj Kant, was staged at Natrang’s Studio Theatre at Kachi Chawni as part of its weekly Sunday Theatre series.
The play portrayed the struggles faced by immigrants, particularly Asians living in developed European countries, who often encounter racial discrimination and hostility from sections of the native population. Through a sensitive narrative, the production explored how such prejudice impacts the lives and self-esteem of young individuals.
The story was presented from the perspective of a school-going girl named Noorie, who is repeatedly bullied by her classmates because of her darker complexion. The constant teasing and discrimination leave her deeply disheartened and eventually push her to consider discontinuing her education.
However, the narrative takes a hopeful turn when Noorie’s mother counsels her and explains that true beauty lies not in outward appearance but in one’s inner character and values. She encourages her daughter to recognize that kindness, sincerity and a compassionate heart define real beauty, rather than physical attributes.
Inspired by her mother’s words, Noorie returns to school with renewed confidence. The play concludes on an uplifting note when the result of the Miss World pageant is announced, and the winner turns out to be an Indian girl. The ending reinforces the message that true beauty lies in one’s character and self-worth rather than external appearance.
The performance delivered a powerful message against racial prejudice while promoting self-confidence and inner strength.
The play featured notable performances by young Natrang artists including Kananpreet Kaur, Mehak Chib, Supria Gorka and Sheetal Sen. Lighting for the production was handled by Neeraj Kant, while the music was composed by Kartik Kumar. The programme was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen, with presentations conducted by Vishal Sharma.
