New Delhi: A High-Level Committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved ₹330.34 crore as additional Central assistance for Jammu and Kashmir to support relief and rehabilitation measures following natural disasters in 2025.
The assistance forms part of a total ₹1,912.99 crore approved for six states and a Union Territory affected by floods, flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides and cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ during the year. The funds will be released from the National Disaster Response Fund.
According to an official statement issued on Friday, the relief package includes ₹341.48 crore for Andhra Pradesh, ₹15.70 crore for Chhattisgarh, ₹778.67 crore for Gujarat, ₹288.39 crore for Himachal Pradesh, ₹158.41 crore for Nagaland and ₹330.34 crore for Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the Central assistance from the NDRF would be provided after adjusting 50 per cent of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund for the financial year.
The Union government said the additional support is over and above the funds already released to states under disaster response and mitigation mechanisms. During the financial year 2025–26, the Centre has released ₹20,735.20 crore to 28 states under the SDRF and ₹3,628.18 crore to 21 states under the NDRF.
Additionally, ₹5,373.20 crore has been released to 23 states from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund and ₹1,189.56 crore to 21 states from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund.
The government said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it continues to extend all necessary support to states and Union Territories during natural calamities, ensuring timely assistance for relief, rehabilitation and mitigation efforts.
