PDP’s Rafique Rather Backs NHM Staff, Demands Pay Hikes, Job Policy

Srinagar : Mohd Rafique Rather, a senior leader of J&K PDP has voiced significant concerns regarding the grievances of the Jammu and Kashmir National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) related to their service conditions, salary structure, and job security.
In a statement issued here on Monday Rather slammed J&K Legislative Assembly for allegedly receiving incomplete or misleading information about the challenges faced by NHM employees, emphasizing the importance of transparency in democratic governance. Rather highlighted that NHM employees have been working under difficult and uncertain conditions for nearly two decades, playing a crucial role in healthcare delivery, especially during public health emergencies. Despite their essential contributions, these workers lack a clear job policy that ensures service continuity, regularization, and social security benefits, leading to a sense of insecurity about their future. He pointed out the significant salary disparities faced by NHM employees in Jammu and Kashmir compared to their counterparts in other regions, despite performing similar duties under more challenging circumstances. Rather argued that such financial inequities and policy neglect undermine the foundation of a robust public healthcare system. He called on the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Health Minister Sakina Itoo to intervene and conduct a transparent review of the issues presented to the Assembly. He demanded an immediate rationalization of salaries and the establishment of a comprehensive job policy that guarantees job security and fair compensation for NHM employees. Rather expressed solidarity with the aggrieved employees, asserting that their concerns are legitimate and warrant serious attention. He warned against procedural delays and emphasized that a sustainable healthcare system relies on motivated and secure human resources. He urged the government to engage in dialogue and policy reform to prevent potential agitation that could disrupt public health services, framing the issue as one of dignity, justice, and fairness for the dedicated health workers and their families.
