NIT Srinagar promotes Innovation, Entrepreneurship at MSME Design Scheme Workshop

Experts deliberate on funding support, PPDC facilitation, startup ecosystem and GeM procurement process

Srinagar : The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Greenovator Incubation Foundation, hosted a One-Day Workshop on the MSME Design Scheme, sponsored by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. The event attracted a diverse audience, including entrepreneurs, startups, faculty, and students, and aimed to enhance the MSME and startup ecosystem in the region.
The workshop commenced with the inauguration of the MSME Project Stall at Indus Park, setting the stage for discussions on innovation and entrepreneurship. Key figures, including Prof. Atikur Rehman, Registrar of NIT Srinagar, and Mr. Saheel Allagband, Assistant Director of MSME-DFO Srinagar, emphasized the importance of structured support for MSMEs to foster self-reliance and economic resilience. They highlighted the need for formal registration, digital compliance, and quality certification to ensure sustainable growth. Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, reiterated the institute’s commitment to supporting MSMEs through technical expertise and resources. He stressed the role of academic institutions in addressing industrial challenges and promoting grassroots innovation. Prof. Rehman further noted the critical role of MSMEs in job creation and economic development, advocating for continuous collaboration among policymakers, academia, and industry. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, the Nodal Officer for the MSME Design Scheme, outlined the workshop’s objectives, emphasizing the scheme’s role in enhancing product competitiveness through expert design and financial support.
Dr. Saad Parvez from the Greenovator Incubation Foundation discussed the significance of incubation support in transforming innovative ideas into viable businesses, urging startups to leverage institutional mentorship and government schemes. The workshop included technical sessions covering various topics such as funding opportunities, facilitation support through MSME PPDC, and the application process for the MSME Design Scheme. Participants received insights into the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform for procurement opportunities. The event concluded with a valedictory session where certificates and awards were distributed to recognize the contributions of selected entrepreneurs and MSME representatives, encouraging them to utilize the MSME Design Scheme for sustainable growth.
