Dy CM for expediting work on power projects to achieve the target “Power For All”

Jammu: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Thursday exhorted upon the officers of Power Development Department to expedite work on various power projects being implemented in the state for timely completion.

The Deputy Chief Minister, while chairing an officers meeting convened to review implementation of various schemes in the power sector, emphasized the need to accelerate the pace of progress on all works being done under different power projects so that the motive of the government of ensuring Power to All is met in letter and spirit.

Dr. Singh had a detailed review on the status of several schemes envisaging adequate power supply in the state which inter alia include RAPDRP, DDUGJY, PMDP etc. He asked the officers to keep a regular monitoring on execution of various works under these schemes and ensure they are completed in time.

The Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to synergize their efforts, so that effective implementation of various initiatives meant for augmentation of the power infra under the PMDP is fast paced and these are completed within the stipulated timeline. He said commissioning of these projects would go a long way in providing hassle free power supply to the consumers of the state.

Dr Singh said it has to be ensured that the funds earmarked for the power sector are utilized fully so that the problems being faced in the transmission, distribution and generation of power are mitigated and people get benefit from the same. “We have to ensure that the funds released by the centre are fully utilized, so that proper augmentation and renovation of the existing power infra is done and new ones are added as well’, he added.

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed for expediting work under RAPDRP maintaining it would go a long way in improving the distribution of power in major towns in the state. He also called for expediting the implementation of DDUJGY and carrying out necessary formalities needed for it.

Commissioner Secretary PDD Hardesh Singh, Development Commissioner Power, Asgar Ali, Chief Engineer PDD Jammu Ashwani Gupta and Chief Engineer PDD Kashmir Shahnaz Gani besides other senior officers attended the meeting.

Dr Singh said the State government is working under a well knit strategy to ensure that the power scenario in the state is transformed towards an improved and enhanced utility by ensuring an easy access to electricity for all.

It was informed in the meeting that the work on RAPDRP is underway and out of 30 towns 24 have been covered under RAPDRP while the work in remaining towns is going on in full swing.

The Deputy Chief Minister, while elaborating on government’s initiatives of ensuring access to electricity for all, said ‘Power for All’ program is a major step in this direction.

Dr. Singh expressed gratitude to the Government of India for extending complete financial and logical support to Jammu and Kashmir for augmenting its power sector.
