Srinagar : Police in Shopian this year delivered decisive blows during the year 2025, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to protect society and uphold the rule of law.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday Police said that during the year, law enforcement in the district registered 72 FIRs related to drug trafficking, resulting in the arrest of 84 individuals. Under a strict zero-tolerance policy 10 habitual offenders were booked under the PIT NDPS Act throughout the year. Sustained enforcement efforts yielded significant results, with the seizure of 317.532 kilograms of various narcotics, including Charas, Cannabis, Poppy Straw, and Heroin. Additionally, authorities recovered 24,700 ml of Codeine-based syrups and 195 tablets of Anxit/Alprazolam, with the total value of the seized contraband amounting to several crores of rupees. Four residential properties linked to narcotics crime were seized throughout the year which valued at approximately ₹1 crore. Furthermore, 716.866 kilograms of contraband and 23,700 ml of illicit drug bottles from 58 previous NDPS cases were destroyed, alongside the identification and destruction of wild cannabis cultivated on about 100 kanals of state land.
