Srinagar: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday launched an all-out attack on the National Conference (NC) government, labelling it as a regime of nepotism, betrayal, and deception that has “cheated unemployed youth” and “fooled the public with hollow promises.”
Talking to reporters, Sharma slammed the government for re-employing a retired official, alleging favoritism due to the individual’s connection to a political leader. He highlighted a pattern of nepotism, referencing a previous appointment in the Tourism Department. Sharma accused the Omar-led government of implementing “anti-youth policies” that have eroded public trust and failed to deliver on promises made during elections, particularly the commitment to create one lakh jobs for the youth, which he claims resulted in only a few positions for relatives. He dismissed the government’s claims regarding subsidized electricity as deceptive, questioning the fulfillment of promises made in the last budget session, including the provision of 200 free units of electricity. Sharma pointed out that many families in Jammu and Kashmir are still awaiting benefits under the PM Surya Urja Mufat Bijli Yojana, suggesting that the government operates on falsehoods and failures. Sharma further asserted that the National Conference (NC) government has failed in various areas, including employment, governance, and development. He criticized the NC for focusing on rhetoric about freedom and external threats while neglecting actual development efforts. He noted that completed projects by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration are being misappropriated for political gain by NC ministers. Additionally, Sharma expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects for a third consecutive victory in Assam and indicated that West Bengal would be the next target for the party’s expansion.
