Srinagar: The University of Kashmir( KU) has achieved a major milestone in strengthening its research and innovation ecosystem by securing research grants worth ₹8.5 crore under the Advanced Research Grant (ARG) Scheme of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
The University has received grants in the fields of Biological, Medical, and Earth Sciences, aimed at advancing research in critical areas such as climate change, cancer biology, ecosystem restoration, and the development of cold-resistant high-yield maize. The funding, totaling ₹8.5 crore, was awarded to research proposals from faculty members including Prof. Ghulam Jeelani, Prof. Anzar Khuroo, and others, following a thorough evaluation process. A key aspect of the grants involves the acquisition of advanced scientific equipment, which will enhance research capabilities across various departments. This includes tools such as Gel Documentation Systems, Conviron Growth Chambers, Ground Penetrating Radar, Automatic Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and Automatic Weather Stations. Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University, expressed pride in the achievement, highlighting it as a testament to the institution’s growing research excellence and national reputation. She emphasized the importance of these grants in addressing significant regional, national, and global challenges. Additionally, Prof. Mohammad Sultan Bhat, Dean of Research, acknowledged the faculty’s dedication and the strength of the research ecosystem at the University. He noted that the infrastructure developed through these projects would facilitate high-impact research and interdisciplinary collaborations. The University administration reaffirmed its commitment to creating a supportive research environment that promotes high-quality scientific inquiry and contributes to national priorities and the global knowledge system.
