Srinagar : Cyber Police Station Shopian on Monday recovered and restored an amount of ₹63,22,792 to victims of various cyber fraud cases during the current year, after completion of all prescribed legal and judicial formalities.
In a statement issued here on Monday Police said that the recovery of defrauded amounts was successfully achieved by the Cyber Police Station Shopian through prompt action and professional investigation. During the reporting period, the station received multiple complaints related to UPI fraud, social media scams, fake loan applications, OTP misuse, and other forms of online financial fraud. Upon receiving these complaints, immediate investigations were initiated using advanced technical and digital tools. The police highlighted that timely intervention and effective coordination with banks and financial institutions played a crucial role in freezing suspicious transactions at critical stages. This proactive approach not only prevented further financial losses but also facilitated the recovery of the amounts lost by victims. In its statement Police said that the recovery shows its commitment to effectively manage cybercrime cases and provide timely assistance to victims, in line with directives from higher authorities, appealing people therein to remain vigilant and practice cyber safety by refraining from sharing sensitive banking information or OTPs. Police also advised people to report instances of cyber fraud immediately through the designated Helpline 1930 or the official website www.cybercrime.gov.in.
