Health Secy lauds PG scholars on orientation milestone

Jammu : Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Saturday felicitated and congratulated the newly inducted PG scholars and faculty members for successful conduct of 15 day PG orientation program.
Significantly, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine has approved 32 PG seats across seven specialties for the academic session 2025. In line with this development, 32 PG scholars, selected by the J&K BOPEE Authority, have been admitted to Government Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor, marking a major boost to postgraduate Ayurvedic education in the region.
Under the supervision of Professor Ashutosh Gupta, Principal cum Dean and Dr. Suresh Sharma, Director Ayush, the Government Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor conducted a 15 day PG orientation program for the PG scholars strictly as per the curriculum prescribed by NCISM, GoI.
Professor Vishal Tandon, a renowned Pharmacologist and Advisor IEC and Dr. Dev Raj, a Senior Biostatistician at Government Medical College Jammu, delivered comprehensive sessions on Research Methodology and Biostatistics to PG scholars. The sessions aimed to enhance the scholars’ skill development, personality growth and scientific acumen, equipping them with the tools necessary for academic and professional success.
The program featured a distinguished panel of speakers, including esteemed representatives from NCISM, GoI, All India Institute of Ayurveda New Delhi, National Institute of Ayurveda Jaipur, and senior scientists from CSIR-IIIM, Jammu. The PG scholars engaged with these experts, gaining valuable insights into the field of Ayurveda. Professor BL Mehra, Senior Member of NCISM, provided an overview of the Commission’s hierarchy and highlighted various policy initiatives and career opportunities in Ayurveda, inspiring the next generation of practitioners and researchers.
During the orientation programme, an expert panel of guest speakers from all over India shared their clinical/research experiences, valuable insights and various dimensions of Ayurveda Curriculum with career guidance.
Professor Acharya Shri Nidhi from the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, emphasized the significance of aligning the body’s natural rhythms with those of nature to mitigate chronic diseases, which account for over 60% of the total disease burden. By adopting Ayurvedic principles such as Dincharya and Ritucharya, individuals can harmonize their circadian rhythms and effectively manage these conditions, promoting overall well-being and preventive healthcare.
Dr. Vidhya Bhushan Pandey from Orissa shed light on the applications of nanotechnology in Ayurveda, highlighting techniques to reduce particle size and enhance drug palatability.
Dr. S S Mishra from Choudhary Brahm Prakash Charak Sansanthan, New Delhi, familiarized PG scholars with Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools, including relevant social media software and e-literature resources.
Dr. Arun Mahapatra from All India Institute of Ayurveda emphasized the role of computational technology in new drug discovery and treatment innovations, inspiring scholars to leverage these advancements in their practice.
On 15th Day, Professor Kartar Dhiman, Vice Chancellor from Shri Krishna Ayurveda University Kurukshetra apprised of various career opportunities in Ayurveda and focused on integration of traditional system of medicine with modern technology.
Dr. Asha Caubey, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IIIM enlightened the PG scholars about pro-biotics and use of fermentation technology.
The faculty of Government Ayurvedic Medical College Akhnoor contributed to the program with insightful sessions, including Dr. Twinkle Gupta on Time Management, Dr. Sudesh Gupta on Effective Use of Podium, Dr. Bipan Chandra on Career Opportunities, Dr. Ankita on the Global Relevance of Ayurveda in Healthcare, Dr. Sukrant on BLS and Vision Ayurveda 2030 and Dr. D.K Sharma on Integrating Ayurvedic Medicines into Primary Healthcare.
