Srinagar : Social Welfare Department (SWD), through SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of
Women (Mission Shakti), Srinagar, Wednesday organized an event to celebrate the birth of the girl child along with distribution of Baby Kits under the flagship programme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at JLNM Hospital, Srinagar.
The event aimed to highlight the importance of valuing and celebrating the birth of a girl child, while challenging long-standing patriarchal norms that undermine the dignity and potential of women. Celebrating the birth of a girl child signifies recognition of her inherent worth, promotion of gender equality, and assurance of her rights to health, education, and future opportunities.
The initiative reflects a shift in societal mindset from viewing daughters as a burden to embracing them as pillars of hope, prosperity, and positive social change, in line with the spirit of National Girl Child Day.
As part of the event, Baby Kits were distributed to mothers of newly born girl children. These kits include essential hygiene and care items for both newborns and mothers, aimed at promoting health, hygiene, and financial support during the critical postnatal period.
The initiative ensures that mothers leave the hospital equipped with basic necessities, providing comfort, reassurance, and dignity at the beginning of motherhood.
The distribution of Baby Kits reinforces the commitment of the Social Welfare Department to support families, empower women, and ensure that every newborn girl receives a warm, respectful, and dignified start to life.
The programme witnessed the presence of Medical Superintendent JLNM Hospital, Dr. Tariq, District Mission Coordinator, S-HEW Srinagar, Ruqaya Ashraf, along with other officials and staff from JLNM Hospital and S-HEW Srinagar.
