Rajouri : The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah (BGSB) University observed National Mathematics Day with the theme “Mathematics, Creativity and Art,” highlighting the interdisciplinary and creative dimensions of mathematics in contemporary education.
Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor of BGSBU, highlighted the essential role of mathematics in fostering academic excellence, scientific research, and nation-building. He pointed out that mathematics is fundamental to innovation and critical thinking across various disciplines. The event included expert lectures from Prof. Mohd. Kalimudin Ahmad of Aligarh Muslim University and Dr. Narinder Kumar of Kumaon University, who discussed the intersection of mathematics with art and creativity, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary learning. Dr. Javid Iqbal, Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, welcomed attendees and stressed the need to promote mathematics as a discipline that enhances logic, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. Dr. A A Shah, Associate Dean of the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, also spoke about the significance of mathematics in everyday life. The program saw participation from faculty members of Government Colleges and the Central University of Kashmir, as well as students from various institutions, including the Engineering College of BGSB University and local degree colleges. The second session featured student presentations that aligned with the event’s theme, showcasing innovative ideas and creative approaches. Prizes and certificates were awarded to students for their exceptional performances, recognizing their contributions to the celebration of mathematics.
