Night temperatures rise in J&K, fog persists

Srinagar: Minimum temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir experienced a slight increase on Monday, although cold conditions persisted, especially in the Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
In the Kashmir area, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius, a slight decrease from 2.0 degrees Celsius the previous day. Qazigund saw a significant rise to 2.2 degrees Celsius from 0.8 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded a minor drop to 2.2 degrees Celsius from 2.4 degrees Celsius. Kupwara’s temperature increased to 1.6 degrees Celsius from 1.2 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag rose to 2.4 degrees Celsius from 0.8 degrees Celsius. Conversely, Gulmarg’s temperature fell to 1.0 degree Celsius from 1.4 degrees Celsius, and Pampore decreased to 0.5 degrees Celsius from 1.0 degree Celsius. In the Jammu region, temperatures remained stable, with Jammu city recording a consistent minimum of 11.4 degrees Celsius. Jammu Airport noted a slight rise to 11.6 degrees Celsius from 11.3 degrees Celsius. Banihal recorded 3.1 degrees Celsius, while Batote saw a minor increase to 8.3 degrees Celsius from 7.9 degrees Celsius. Katra experienced a slight dip to 10.7 degrees Celsius from 11.2 degrees Celsius. In Ladakh, temperatures rose significantly, with Leh recording minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, up from minus 5.0 degrees Celsius, and Kargil improving to minus 1.2 degrees Celsius from minus 4.6 degrees Celsius. Nubra Valley also saw an increase to minus 0.1 degrees Celsius from minus 1.8 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department indicated no significant weather changes are expected until December 20. Light rain or snowfall is anticipated in scattered areas of the Kashmir region and isolated parts of the Jammu division on December 21. From December 22 to 25, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy, becoming generally cloudy on December 26, with shallow to moderate fog likely to persist in many areas.
