Awantipora : Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), under its Community Connect initiative, organised a Community-Based Diabetes Awareness and Prevention Programme at PHC Dadsara, Tral, centred on the theme “Diabetes Across Life Stages.” The programme organized by Syed Mantaqi Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology (SMMCN & MT), IUST aimed to improve community awareness about diabetes, its risk factors, and preventive strategies relevant across different age groups.
The event focused on glucometer-based blood sugar screening, where numerous community members had their random blood glucose levels assessed. Nursing students participated by conducting vital sign monitoring, which included blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and BMI assessments. Additionally, dietary counseling sessions and exercise demonstrations were held to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and preventive care. Coordinated by Ms. Mubashir Bashir, the Community Connect Coordinator, the program included educational sessions, practical demonstrations, and active community involvement. It emphasized critical aspects of diabetes management, such as recognizing warning signs, understanding complications, and implementing evidence-based prevention strategies. The collaboration with PHC Dadsara facilitated smooth execution and enhanced community engagement. Overall, the program effectively addressed the theme of diabetes prevention and control, significantly contributing to public awareness.
