Says “Night-Ops Boosted, New Tech Fortify Kashmir Frontier, Kashmir Border Surveillance Intensified”
Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) is significantly enhancing its drone warfare and surveillance capabilities along the Kashmir Frontier to address security challenges along the Line of Control (LoC).
Speaking at the BSF’s annual press meeting at its Frontier Headquarters Humhama on Force’s 61st Foundation Day Inspector General Ashok Yadav emphasized that modernization is essential for India’s border defense strategy, highlighting that technology will play a crucial role in the future of border security. Key priorities include drone warfare, artificial intelligence integration, and superior night-surveillance capabilities. The BSF has established a Drone Warfare School in Gwalior, which is now operational and focuses on training personnel in various aspects of drone technology, including design, weaponization, anti-drone jamming, and reconnaissance tactics. Additionally, drone forensics labs in Delhi and Amritsar have been set up for technical training and rapid analysis of drone components involved in cross-border activities. Yadav noted that while drone activity is observed across the LoC, there have been no incursions into Indian territory recently, with most drones being used for reconnaissance. The BSF is equipped with upgraded night-vision and radar systems to monitor movements effectively. The force is also implementing a digital transformation initiative, which includes advanced cyber threat response training and the introduction of new weapons and optical systems for high-altitude operations. The BSF’s “Bhumi” innovation program is collaborating with Indian startups to develop indigenous tools for detecting tunnels, drones, and communication jammers, aiming for self-reliant and smart border management. Furthermore, the deployment of Mahila Praharis (women personnel) at strategic locations is part of a broader strategy to intercept female couriers involved in narco-smuggling and to foster community confidence among women in border areas. Yadav concluded that the modernization efforts extend beyond technology to encompass a shift in mindset, professionalism, and inclusivity, ensuring that the BSF remains battle-ready and technologically advanced for the future.
