New Delhi, Srinagar : Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, a leader of the National Conference and Rajya Sabha MP, expressed concerns regarding the lack of power for the elected UT Government in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his inaugural address, he highlighted that despite the recent elections in October 2024, the new government is unable to function independently, questioning the purpose of an elected body without decision-making power. Another National Conference MP, Sajad Kichloo, called on the Prime Minister and Home Minister to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the historical significance of the recent assembly elections. He urged the Government of India to adhere to the principles of “Jamhooriyat, Insaaniyat, and Kashmiriyat,” as outlined by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Kichloo on his new political role, noting the expectations of the people from the Chenab Valley. He also extended best wishes to Gurwinder Singh Oberoi, who was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member, acknowledging the hopes placed upon him. The newly elected members of the Rajya Sabha were administered their oaths by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, with Kichloo taking his oath in Urdu, followed by Oberoi in Punjabi, and Ramzan thereafter.
