Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora& Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
According to a police statement issued here on Saturday a police team at a checkpoint at Y Point Babareshi, apprehended one Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, who was found in possession of 21 grams of a heroin-like substance and a digital weighing machine. He has been arrested, and an FIR No. 85/2025 has been filed under the NDPS Act, with an investigation underway. In a separate incident, a police party led by the SHO of Police Station Awantipora intercepted two individuals, Farooq Ahmad Zaroo and Ifahaz Ul Mushtaq, at a checkpoint in Kachkoot. Their search yielded 5.42 grams of heroin-like substance, 553 grams of charas powder, and a charas stick weighing 26.43 grams. Both suspects were arrested, and an FIR No. 242/2025 has been registered, with investigations initiated. Police in its statement reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking, appealing therein people to report any information related to drug peddling or other anti-social activities to help foster a drug-free soc
