Srinagar :Police on Saturday said that it has arrested nine drug peddlers in Shopian, Budgam & Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
According to a police issued here on Saturday in Shopian law enforcement agencies in a series of operations on Saturday intercepted unlawfuls involved in drug-related activities. At a checkpoint on the Kashwa–Zainapora axis, officers from Police Station Zainapora apprehended two suspects, Mohd Zafran Lone and Irfan Yatoo, recovering approximately 190 grams of a charas-like substance. Both individuals were arrested, and a case (FIR No. 103/2025) has been registered, with investigations underway. In Budgam, police at a checkpoint near the Salsabeel Educational Institute intercepted two men, Javid Ahmad Lone and Sakir Rashid, who attempted to flee upon seeing the police. A search revealed about 18.4 grams of heroin-like substances. They were arrested, and a case (FIR No. 307/2025) has been initiated. Additionally, in Pulwama, police intercepted a motorcycle carrying two individuals, Abrar Ahmad Yatoo and Waqar Ahmad Chopan, recovering 553.5 grams of charas and 19 grams of a charas-like substance. They were arrested, and a case (FIR No. 257/2025) has been registered, with the vehicle used in the crime seized. Police in its statement reiterated its commitment to its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking besides which it also appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling or other anti-social activities in their areas.
