New Delhi : Rajya Sabha Member and senior BJP leader Gulam Ali Khatana met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the security situation and welfare initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir. Khatana emphasized the strategic importance of the region as a frontline of India’s defense and praised the Indian Army and security forces for their efforts in maintaining peace and stability.
During the meeting, Khatana provided insights into the conditions along the Line of Control (LoC) and stressed the need for improved infrastructure and welfare facilities for both military personnel and local residents. He advocated for the deployment of modern surveillance systems, anti-drone technology, and enhanced road connectivity to bolster border management. Additionally, he called for the construction of community bunkers and better civilian infrastructure to support families affected by cross-border violence. Khatana highlighted the necessity of balanced regional development through the Border Area Development Programme (BADP), focusing on education, healthcare, digital inclusion, and employment for youth in border villages. He also proposed expanding recruitment efforts for local youth into defense and paramilitary forces to foster national service and capacity building. In terms of welfare for serving and retired personnel, Khatana suggested improvements in facilities under the Sainik Welfare Department, including housing support, educational scholarships, and skill development programs for ex-servicemen and the families of martyrs and war widows. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledged Khatana’s dedication to grassroots issues and assured his support for enhancing border infrastructure and soldier welfare. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a secure and developed Jammu and Kashmir, with Khatana expressing gratitude for Singh’s leadership in advancing security and development in the region.
