19 long-time absconders arrested across Kashmir: Police

Srinagar | Oct, 17: Police on Friday apprehended nineteen long-time absconders from districts of Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Ganderbal & PD Awantipora. These unlawfuls had been evading arrest for years, some for over three decades in connection with serious criminal cases.

According to a  statement issued from Zonal Police headquarters Srinagar In Kulgam, two unlawfuls Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh and Bilal Ahmad Ganie, were arrested after evading justice for nearly 20 years. Sheikh was wanted under the NDPS Act, while Ganie faced similar charges. In Anantnag, five absconders linked to serious offenses, including abduction and rape, were captured. The individuals, including Mohd Yasin Wani and Abdul Gani Dar, had been evading arrest for years, with some cases dating back to 1999. They have been presented before the courts and are now in judicial custody. Shopian police arrested Ab. Rashid Sheikh, who had been absconding since 1989 for theft and forest law violations. His long evasion of the law ended with his recent capture, and he is now undergoing legal proceedings. In Ganderbal, two absconders, Shabir Ahmad Pakhtun and Mohd Lateef Khatana, were arrested after over three decades of evasion. They were wanted for offenses under the Arms Act and RPC, respectively, and have been brought before the court. Additionally, in Awantipora, police executed non-bailable warrants against nine absconders involved in various cases. A special team successfully arrested these unlawfuls who were also presented in court. The police in its statement reiterated its commitment to uphold justice, emphasizing that offenders will be pursued regardless of the time elapsed, reinforcing the rule of law and accountability in the region.
