Awantipora |: The Department of Geomatics at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in partnership with the Healthy Climate Initiative (HCI), hosted a Leadership Workshop focused on Climate Action and Innovation.
The workshop aimed to enhance leadership and innovation in addressing climate change through research, technology, and community involvement, bringing together a diverse group of experts, academicians, and practitioners to explore innovative solutions for climate resilience and sustainability. During the keynote address, Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, underscored the heightened vulnerability of the Himalayan region to climate change, advocating for localized research and adaptive strategies. Dr. Soumitra Das, Chairman and Executive Director of HCI, presented on innovative cooling technologies as a means to combat the climate crisis. Mr. Rituraj Phukan, Director of HCI, highlighted the importance of climate justice and equitable action in climate initiatives. Additionally, environmental lawyer Mr. Nadeem Qadri emphasized the critical role of environmental governance and community participation in effective climate action. Dr. Tariq Abdullah, Head of the Department of Geomatics, welcomed attendees and stressed the significance of geospatial technologies in addressing climate challenges. The event also featured a showcase of IUST’s eco-friendly infrastructure.
