Srinagar | : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora& Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers in the Awantipora and Budgam areas. In Awantipora, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) at a checkpoint in Tulbagh intercepted two individuals, Tabish Rafiq Bhat and Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, and recovered 80 grams of a substance resembling Charas Powder. Both suspects were arrested, and a case under FIR No. 104/2025 has been registered at the Pampore Police Station, with an investigation currently underway. In a related incident in Budgam also police acted on credible information regarding one Shabir Ahmad Sofi, who was allegedly involved in drug peddling. A raid was conducted at his residence by the SHO of Beerwah, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate and approximately 21.644 kilograms of Ganja were seized . Sofi was arrested at the scene, and a case under FIR No. 146/2025) has been filed under the NDPS Act, with further investigations in progress. Police in its statement appealed people to remain vigilant and report any drug-related activities or other criminal behavior to local authorities or by calling emergency services at 112.
