Srinagar |: Police on Tuesday said that it has seized three vehicles along with three persons involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals with a mechanized motor boat in Awantipora.
According to a statement issued from Zonal police Headquarters Srinagar a police party led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Awantipora seized a mechanized motor boat used for illegal sand extraction from the Jehlum River. The investigation has been initiated against the accused identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar and Mohd Amin Dar, both residents of Karnabal Samboora in connection with a case registered under FIR No. 214/2025. In a related incident, the police also confiscated three tractors involved in similar unlawful activities. The tractors, identified by their registration numbers JK13J-9175, JK13C-2186, and chassis No. 36987, were operated by Irshad Ahmad, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, and Bilal Ahmad Shah, all residents of Larkipora and Bhoo.A case under FIR No. 215/2025 has been registered in this connection and investigations are going on. In its statement police appealed people to assist in reporting illegal mining activities, assuring that all information provided will be kept confidential besides reiterating its commitment to enforce strict legal measures against those participating in such illicit operations.
