Srinagar | : Police in Anantnag on Monday conducted an anti-drug awareness program at Model School Akingam, which saw active participation from students, teachers, staff, and local community members.
Officers from Police Station Achabal engaged with students, discussing the psychological, physical, and social impacts of drug addiction. The event encouraged students to pledge against drug abuse, with awareness materials distributed and motivational talks aimed at promoting education, sports, and positive activities. In addition, a significant wild bhung (cannabis) destruction drive was executed in and around Qalamabad Market in Handwara, involving collaboration with officials from the Revenue Department. This operation successfully identified and eradicated large areas of wild bhung plants to combat their potential use in illegal drug activities. The police emphasized its commitment to protect youth’s future and continue public outreach initiatives to address the drug issue, appealing therein people to share information on drug trafficking or substance abuse, assuring that the identities of informants would remain confidential.
