DC emphasizes role of teachers, educational institutions in combating drug menace to save youth & society; felicitates resource persons of NMBA

Srinagar : As part of the ongoing fortnight-long Sewa Parv, district administration Srinagar Saturday organized a one-day sensitisation cum training programme for Heads of Educational Institutions (HoEIs) under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) at Amar Singh College.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, was the chief guest on the occasion.
The programme was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Aadil Fareed; Principal, Amar Singh College, Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Hakak; Chief Education Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Consultant GMC, HoD and Professor of Psychiatry IMHANS, Heads of various educational institutions of Srinagar district and students.
During the event, speakers highlighted the vital role of teachers and educational institutions in combating the drug menace and protecting youth and society from its harmful effects.
Addressing the gathering, DC underscored the critical role of educational institutions and teachers in the mission to eradicate drug abuse from society. He stated that the purpose of conducting such sensitisation cum training programmes is to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, which can destroy families and society.
DC emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilant monitoring of behaviour of the students to save them from drug addiction.
DC observed every citizen to play their part in the anti-drug campaign to help eradicate drugs from society. Furthermore, he underlined the role of Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) to provide proper medical counselling and rehabilitation of drug-affected individuals to ensure their reintegration into society.
Linking the observance of Sewa Parv with public service, DC described it as a key step towards achieving a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Labroo emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in making Srinagar drugs free while urging citizens to actively take part in the upcoming programs under Sewa Parv 2025.
During the programme, DC also felicitated the resource persons of the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan who participated in the three-month-long anti-drug campaign to sensitize and raise awareness among the public, particularly the youth.
Earlier, Chief Education Officer highlighted the role of teachers in the fight against drugs. District Social Welfare Officer stated that schools serve as an important platform to sensitize students about the drug menace and stressed the responsibility of teachers and educational institutions to make all educational institutions drug-free.
