Srinagar | : Police in Shopian on Friday said that it has detained a notorious thief and molester under the provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA), Stating therein that the accused has been shifted to Udhampur Jail following the issuance of detention orders by the competent authority.
In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that the accused Waseem Ahmad Wani S/o Abdul Aziz Wani R/o Ganowpora is a repeat offender, involved in eight FIRs registered across various police stations and his criminal history includes theft, house trespass, and serious offences against women, posing a persistent threat to public peace and community safety.
Stating that police Station Shopian, in close coordination with Police Post Keegam, and under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Shopian, Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir played a pivotal role in preparing and executing the PSA warrant against the individual, Police in its statement further said that a comprehensive dossier was compiled, detailing his repeated involvement in criminal activities.
On this occasion, the SSP Shopian, Anayat Ali Chowdhary has reaffirmed commitment of police to maintain public order and ensure safety and dignity of all people, warning therein that police will continue to take firm and lawful action against habitual offenders and all those who pose a threat to peace and stability in the district.
