Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara & Pulwama and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Police said that in Handwara, a police party from Police Post Magam at a checkpoint established at Magam chowk, intercepted a suspect identified as Amir Ayoub Khan S/o Mohd Ayoub Khan R/o Marathgam Handwara and during search, 4 grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was subsequently arrested and a case under FIR No. 211/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Handwara besides initiating further investigations.
Stating that in a similar action in Pulwama also, Police foiled a drug smuggling bid at Newa and seized 120 grams of heroin-like substance from a notorious woman drug peddler identified as Sheikh Maroofa W/o Sheikh Tasaduq R/o Kathidarwaza Mumkhan, Rainawari, Srinagar, Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No. 217/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police said reiterated its commitment to continue its crackdown against drug peddling and applealed people to cooperate and share any information related to drug trafficking for a drug-free society.
