Srinagar: The Department of Hindi at the University of Kashmir on Tuesday organized a special event to celebrate Hindi Diwas, emphasizing the importance of Hindi as a link language that enhances India’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
The event aimed to raise awareness about Hindi’s role in promoting national integration, encourage appreciation for its literary richness among students, and foster dialogue on the preservation of Indian languages within academic settings. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan underscored Hindi’s significance as one of India’s official languages, noting its ability to connect people across different regions and reflect the nation’s shared cultural heritage. She expressed that celebrating Hindi Diwas motivates students to value the richness of Indian languages and literature. Dean of the School of Arts, Languages and Literature, Prof. Aejaz Mohammad Sheikh, emphasized the necessity of promoting Hindi in academic contexts, stating that such events enhance awareness of the language’s importance in education and communication. Prof. Zahida Jabeen from the Department of Hindi highlighted the need to instill respect for Hindi in the younger generation, which is crucial for cultural preservation and inclusivity. In her welcome address, Prof. Rubi Zutshi, Head of the Department of Hindi, outlined the program’s objectives and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to advancing Hindi language and literature through various academic and cultural initiatives.
