CU Kashmir celebrates Engineers’ Day

G’bal : The Department of Civil Engineering in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Monday commemorated Engineers’ Day-2025 at Tulmulla Campus.
Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, highlighted the pivotal role of engineers in nation-building. He drew a distinction between engineering and technology, while explaining their interdependence in driving progress. He also remarked on how science and engineering together pave the way for new technologies that make human life more comfortable. Prof. A Ravinder Nath emphasized that engineering education must move beyond theoretical knowledge to incorporate practical, problem-solving approaches that address real-life challenges. “Engineers are not only builders of bridges, buildings and roads, but also the architects of sustainable societies. Our students must strive to combine technical excellence with social responsibility,” Prof. A Ravinder Nath remarked.
Guest of Honour, Er. Iftikhar Kakroo, Chairman of the JKWRRA, spoke on the multifaceted role of engineers in shaping society—ranging from simple innovations like matchsticks to complex developments such as pacemakers and large dams. He emphasised that engineers must act as nation-builders, focusing on infrastructure and development rather than being confined to the service sector. He added that with climate change and increasing population pressures, the role of engineers has become even more vital in ensuring sustainable development and disaster resilience.
In his keynote address on the theme, “Emerging Technologies in Digital Business,” Prof. Chiranjeev Kumar, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Dhanbad, emphasised the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cloud Computing, and IoT in shaping future business landscapes and societal transformation. He also spoke on the convergence of engineering disciplines in the modern era, stressing that the boundaries between civil engineering, computer science, and information technology are increasingly dissolving.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, urged the students to emulate the values, dedication and discipline of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Prof. Mir said, “Monday, engineers are at the heart of technological revolutions—artificial intelligence, green energy, smart cities, biotechnology, and space exploration. Events like these remind students that engineering is about addressing humanity’s needs—clean water, affordable healthcare, sustainable energy, efficient transport, and digital inclusivity.”
Earlier in his opening remarks, IT Deptt Coordinator, Dr. Yash Paul, highlighted the achievements and life of Sir M. Visvesvaraya and talked about the visionary engineer’s role in shaping modern India
