NIT Srinagar mourns demise of Asstt Professor, Mortal remains sent to Tamil Nadu

Dir assures full support to bereaved family
Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar is mourning the unexpected passing of Dr. Sagadevan R, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, who died in Srinagar. His death has profoundly affected the campus community, leaving faculty and students in shock and sorrow.
Dr. Sagadevan’s remains were on Monday transported to his hometown in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, for last rites, with faculty members accompanying the body to ensure a respectful farewell. NIT Srinagar expressed gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir Government and SKIMS Soura for their efforts in providing medical care during Dr. Sagadevan’s illness and for facilitating the necessary formalities following his death. The institute also acknowledged the support from various authorities, including the Director of SKIMS Soura and the Airport Authority of India, which ensured the dignified transportation of his remains. Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia described Dr. Sagadevan’s loss as both personal and institutional, highlighting his contributions as a dedicated academic and kind individual. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman emphasized the significant impact of Dr. Sagadevan’s passing on the academic community, noting his commitment to teaching, research, and mentoring students. Colleagues and students remembered Dr. Sagadevan as an approachable and sincere educator who significantly enriched the academic environment at NIT Srinagar. His academic journey included a B.E. in Civil Engineering from Anna University, an M.Tech in Structural Engineering from IIT Madras, and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the same institution, showcasing his dedication and expertise. The NIT Srinagar community stands united in mourning Dr. Sagadevan’s loss, recognizing his lasting contributions as a teacher, researcher, and mentor, which will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
