Jammu : Senior BJP leader Gulam Ali Khatana has criticized the Omar Abdullah-led government for its inadequate response to the recent floods, claiming it has failed to protect affected families and has shown indifference to their plight.
During his visit to various flood-hit areas, Khatana met with displaced families and assessed the damage, emphasizing that the situation reflects both a natural disaster and a political failure. He pointed out that the Chief Minister has not declared the floods a natural disaster, which he believes has left residents without necessary support and relief. Local residents reported significant losses, including homes, crops, and livestock, and expressed frustration over delayed rescue operations and insufficient relief efforts. Khatana highlighted the government’s negligence, stating that despite the visible destruction, there has been no serious mobilization of relief or acknowledgment of disaster zones. He condemned the lack of decisive leadership, which he argues has exacerbated the suffering of the people. Accompanied by a delegation of party officials and community leaders, as well as representatives from various government agencies, Khatana acknowledged the efforts of frontline workers but reiterated the need for immediate action from the government. He pledged to advocate for the affected families in Parliament and beyond, insisting that relief must reach every household and reconstruction efforts must commence without delay.
