Budgam : District Development Commissioner (DDC) Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, Thursday inspected a workshop on digitisation of Jamabandis, GIS Mapping of Land Records, and updation of Mutations held at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, Budgam.
The workshop is part of a series of programs being conducted across all nine tehsils of Budgam i.e, Khag, Beerwah, Budgam, Narbal, Magam, Chadoora, Charar-i-Sharief, B.K. Pora and Khansahib, aimed at training revenue staff and sensitizing stakeholders about the process of modernising land records under the ongoing Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP).
During the inspection, DDC interacted with the resource persons and participants, stressing the need for accuracy, transparency, and time-bound completion of digitisation work. He observed that comprehensive digitisation of Jamabandis (Record of Rights), mapping of land parcels on GIS platforms, and timely updation of mutations will ensure easy access to records, minimization of land disputes, curbing of malpractices, and improved public service delivery.
He said that the digitisation of land records is a reformative step towards efficient governance and citizen empowerment. “Our goal is to build a transparent, technology-driven, and people-friendly land records system that provides clarity and security to every landholder,” he remarked.
DDC directed the revenue officers to ensure that every tehsil in Budgam completes the exercise within the fixed timelines and that field verification, cross-checking, and updation processes are carried out meticulously. He also laid emphasis on public awareness, directing that people should be regularly informed about the benefits of digitised records and their right to access them.
He further added that once digitisation and GIS mapping are completed, mutation updation, issuance of copies, and grievance redressal related to land will become much faster and more reliable, reducing delays and bringing accountability to the system.
The workshop witnessed active participation from tehsil-level revenue officials, patwaris, and technical staff, who were trained in data handling, mutation updation, and use of GIS-based tools for mapping and record management in the district. DC was accompanied by Tehsildar Budgam, other concerned officers during the inspection.
