Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Court in Pulwama and Anantnag on Saturday delivered significant convictions in separate bribery cases involving public officials.
Reports said that in Pulwama, Ghulam Hassan Kumar, a former Girdawar, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 for land demarcation. The case, initiated by a complaint in June 2008, led to a successful trap by the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir, resulting in his conviction under the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and the RPC. The court sentenced him to three and a half years of simple imprisonment and imposed fines totaling Rs 30,000. In Anantnag, Habibullah Kumar, a Junior Assistant in the Block Development Office, was convicted for demanding a bribe of Rs 1,800 to process arrears bills for in-situ promotions. This case, stemming from a written complaint, also involved a successful trap by the Vigilance Organisation. The court sentenced Kumar to two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 21,000. These convictions underscore the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s commitment to combating corruption and promoting accountability in public service, reinforcing its resolve to hold accountable those who exploit public office for personal gain.
