Srinagar | : Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board and Minister of State, celebrated Independence Day by unfurling the national flag at a Waqf event held at the Sultan-ul-Arifeen Higher Secondary Institute in Srinagar.
The event was attended by Waqf Board members, local dignitaries, and officials, including Special Officer Bashir Ahmad Bhat and Tehsildar Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin. In her address, Andrabi emphasized the importance of drawing inspiration from freedom fighters and expressed a commitment to contributing to India’s development, as envisioned by the Prime Minister. She highlighted the enthusiastic celebration of the national flag by the Kashmiri people as a response to previous doubts about their patriotism, noting significant transformations in Jammu & Kashmir since 2019 under the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor. Andrabi outlined the progress made by the Waqf Board and shared her vision for its future. She recognized the contributions of various intellectuals and social activists, honoring Waqf Board employees for their exemplary service. A documentary showcasing the achievements of the Waqf Board was premiered, and children from Waqf-managed educational institutions performed patriotic items, receiving appreciation from the audience. The event also featured the presentation of the Alamdar-e-Kashmir Awards to several media professionals and notable figures, including editors from various news outlets and poets recognized for their contributions to literature and social activism. Andrabi concluded by affirming the rapid improvement of Waqf educational institutions and the ongoing momentum of development in the region.
