Says “Deptt has not proposed, approved, initiated any process for inclusion of the subject”
Srinagar: The School Education Department of Jammu & Kashmir has officially denied a news report claiming that the Union Education Ministry plans to introduce Sanskrit as a mandatory subject for students in classes 6 to 10 and as an optional subject for classes 3 to 5 in the Kashmir division. The department emphasized that it has not received any directives from the Ministry of Education regarding such changes to the curriculum. The clarification followed a representation made by an NGO, Purshotam Lal Dube, requesting the inclusion of Sanskrit in schools and colleges under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This request was forwarded to the School Education Department for comments, but the department clarified that it has not proposed or initiated any process to include Sanskrit in the curriculum. The department reiterated its commitment to a transparent and consultative approach for any curriculum changes, in accordance with NEP 2020. It stated that any future decisions regarding new subjects will be communicated through official channels after thorough deliberation. The public and media are encouraged to verify information with official sources to avoid the spread of misinformation.
