Srinagar : Police in Handwara on Wednesday organized a significant Anti-Drugs Awareness Rally at Vilgam Main Market, aimed at educating the public, particularly the youth, about the severe consequences of drug addiction.
The initiative sought to promote a collective responsibility among community members to address this escalating societal issue. The rally saw enthusiastic participation from students of various educational institutions, who marched through the market with banners and placards, delivering a powerful message against drug abuse. Their engagement not only energized the event but also captured the attention of shopkeepers, commuters, and local residents, fostering a sense of community involvement. Senior police officials, along with teachers, civil society members, and local dignitaries, attended the rally, demonstrating strong support for the cause and encouraging the youth’s active participation. The event served a dual purpose: raising awareness about drug abuse and reinforcing community solidarity in combating this challenge. During the gathering, police officials emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot eliminate drug abuse. They stressed the importance of community involvement, particularly from parents, teachers, religious leaders, and local influencers, in recognizing early signs of addiction and guiding the youth towards positive alternatives.
