Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian and Ganderbal and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party from Police Post Keegam under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Shopian Imtiyaz Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Marhang crossing, intercepted a suspect who attempted to flee on spotting the police but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that upon search, Charas sticks like substance (60 Grams) were recovered from the possession of the said accused who was identified as Gulzar Ahmad Thoker S/o Gh Ahmad Thoker R/o Tumlihaal Pulwama.
Stating that in a similar action a police party of Police Station Ganderbal during Naka checking at Beehama intercepted a suspect who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully , Police in its statement further said that during search, Charas like substance wrapped in Corn husks and concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was identified as Ghulam Ahmad Parra S/o Ghulam Parra R/o Beehama, Ganderbal.
Police in its statement further said that both the accused were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to continue extending support, Stating therein that cooperation strengthens resolve to combat this growing threat.
