Youth killed, another injured in Pak shelling in Poonch

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers take up positions at an outpost along a fence at the India-Pakistan border in R.S Pora south-west of Jammu on October 2, 2016. India has evacuated thousands of people near the Pakistani border in Punjab state following the military raids on militant posts, which provoked furious charges of "naked aggression" from Pakistan. The move followed a deadly assault on one of India's army bases in Kashmir that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based militants, triggering a public outcry and demands for military action. / AFP PHOTO / TAUSEEF MUSTAFA

Jammu: Three unexploded mortar shells were recovered near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Narwal area of Transport Nagar in Jammu on Wednesday.
The shells, believed to be remnants of Pakistan’s ceasefire violation during ‘Operation Sindoora’, prompted an immediate response from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
Local residents alerted authorities to the suspicious objects, leading to a rapid deployment of security forces to secure the area.
Reports said that the Bomb Disposal Squad was called in and successfully defused the three RPG shells through a controlled mechanism, ensuring the safety of the surrounding community. The operation was completed without incident, and no casualties were reported.
“These mortar shells posed a significant threat to the safety of civilians in the Narwal area. Thanks to the quick action of local residents and the expertise of our Bomb Disposal Squad, the danger has been neutralized,” said a spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects immediately, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and are conducting further investigations to ascertain the origin and circumstances surrounding the shells. This incident follows recent reports of cross-border shelling, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region
