Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar & Awantipora and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team of Police Station Nowhatta, at a checkpoint established at Syed Sahb Rajori-kadal, arrested a drug peddler identified as Suhail Ahmad Shiekh S/o Gh Rasool Shiekh R/o Qutbuddin Pora Aalikadal and during search recovered substantial quantity of contraband drugs (SpasmoProxyvon and Tapntadol) from his possession.
Stating that in a similar action in Awantipora also a police party during naka checking, arrested a drug peddler identified as Adil Ahmad Bhat S/o Farooq Ahmad Bhat R/o Latribal Pampore, Police in its statement further said that during search, officers recovered 5 grams of brown sugar-like substance from the possession of the said accused, Stating therein further that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations .
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appealed people to come forward with any information related to drug abuse or peddling in their areas.
