New Delhi, Srinagar: In a powerful address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday saluted the bravery and dedication of India’s armed forces, intelligence agencies, and scientists, hailing their decisive action during Operation Sindoor.
The operation, which followed the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, marked a critical moment in India’s fight against terrorism.
“I salute the valiant forces of India, our armed forces, intelligence agencies, and our scientists. Our brave soldiers displayed immense courage during Operation Sindoor. I dedicate this valor to every mother, sister, and daughter of this great nation,” Prime Minister Modi said, paying tribute to the courage shown by Indian forces.
The Prime Minister’s remarks followed the Pahalgam attack, which saw terrorists mercilessly kill innocent civilians in front of their families. The attack, Prime Minister Modi stated, was not only a brutal act of terror but a direct attempt to divide the nation. “The merciless killing of innocent citizens in front of their families was a barbaric act. It was a disgusting attempt to break the harmony and unity of the country. For me personally, this was very painful,” Modi expressed, reflecting the deep emotional impact the attack had on the country.
Modi emphasized that the nation’s response was one of unity, with citizens from all walks of life standing together against terrorism. “After this terrorist attack, the entire nation, every citizen, every community, every political party, unitedly stood up for strong action against terrorism. We gave full freedom to the Indian forces to wipe out the terrorists,” he declared, highlighting the collective resolve to confront terrorism head-on.
The Prime Minister explained that Operation Sindoor was not just a military action but a powerful symbol of the nation’s commitment to justice. “Operation Sindoor is not just a name. It reflects the feelings of millions of Indians. It is our unwavering commitment to justice,” Modi stated, adding that the operation saw Indian forces take swift, precise action against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan. These included notorious terrorist hubs like Bahawalpur and Muridke, which have been linked to several global terror attacks.
“More than 100 terrorists were eliminated in these strikes, including some of the most wanted terrorist leaders,” Modi revealed, underscoring the significant achievement of the operation.
He also connected the operation to the tragic events of Pahalgam, saying, “The terrorists had wiped out the Sindoor of our sisters, and India responded by destroying their terrorist headquarters.” The Prime Minister also shared details of India’s strategic response to Pakistan’s aggression.
“Instead of supporting India’s strike against terrorism, Pakistan started targeting India with drones and missiles. Pakistan targeted our schools, colleges, temples, and military bases. But in this act, Pakistan itself got exposed,” he said, pointing out how India’s air defense systems neutralized Pakistan’s attacks with precision.
PM Modi went on to highlight the success of India’s counterattack. “India’s precision strikes on Pakistan’s military infrastructure, including airbases, caused significant damage. These were airbases of which Pakistan was very proud,” he said. The swift and effective action of Indian forces left Pakistan’s military scrambling for an escape route, with Pakistan reaching out to India for de-escalation by May 10.
Asserting India’s firm stance on terrorism, the Prime Minister outlined the new benchmarks set by Operation Sindoor. “Operation Sindoor has set a new benchmark in our fight against terrorism. We will respond fittingly to any terrorist attack on India, and we will take strict action against the roots of terrorism, wherever they emerge,” PM Modi stated, emphasizing that India would not tolerate any form of nuclear blackmail. He also underscored that the fight against terrorism would not differentiate between governments that sponsor terrorism and those who orchestrate terror attacks. “During Operation Sindoor, the world saw the ugly face of Pakistan when top Pakistani army officers came to bid farewell to slain terrorists. This is strong evidence of state-sponsored terrorism,” Modi said, making it clear that India would continue to take decisive steps to protect its citizens from such threats.
Prime Minister Modi also celebrated India’s growing defense capabilities, especially the success of “Made in India” defense equipment during the operation. “Operation Sindoor has proven that India is ready for 21st-century warfare. The credibility of our indigenous defense equipment has been demonstrated to the world,” he stated proudly. The Prime Minister concluded his address by emphasizing the power of India’s unity. “This is not the era of war, but it is certainly not the era of terrorism. Zero tolerance against terrorism is the key to a peaceful world,” Modi said, stressing that India’s collective strength is its greatest weapon in the fight against terrorism. He also warned Pakistan, stating, “If Pakistan wants to survive, it will have to destroy its terror infrastructure. There is no other way to peace.” Prime Minister Modi made it clear that any future dialogue with Pakistan would center around terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), emphasizing that “Terror and talks cannot go together.”
On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the Prime Minister drew parallels between peace and strength, saying, “Lord Buddha has shown us the path of peace. But the path of peace also goes through power. Humanity must move towards peace and prosperity, and every Indian should live in peace and fulfill the dream of Viksit Bharat (Developed India). For this, it is necessary for India to be powerful, and it is also necessary to use this power when required.” Concluding his address to the Nation Prime Minister Modi once again saluted the courage of the Indian forces and the resolve of the Indian people, reinforcing that India’s commitment to justice, peace, and security would never waver. “I bow to the courage of every Indian, to the oath and resolve of unity of the people of India,” he concluded.
