Srinagar : Police on Sunday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Budgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Kanthbagh near DPL Baramulla intercepted two suspects identified as Javid Ahmed Sheikh S/o Abdul Majeed Sheikh and Sameer Ahmed Sheikh S/o Mohd Subhan Sheikh, both residents of Khawajabagh Baramulla who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully and during search, about 100 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. Police in its statement further said that the said accused were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Budgam a Police Party of Police Station Khansahib at a check point established at Bugroo crossing, intercepted a Scooty bearing registration number JK04-5815 and during search recovered heroin-like substance from the scooty rider, identified as Adil Showkat Khan S/o Showkat Ahmad Khan R/o Nilsar Mohallah Wavoora Baramulla A/P Ompora Budgam, adding therein that subsequently, the accused was arrested on the spot besides which the Scooty used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered later at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations Police
in the concluding para of its above quoted statement reiterated its commitment to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking from the district and appealed people to cooperate with it by reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or dial 112.
