Reconsider ban on AAC, JKIM: Hakeem To PM Modi, HM Shah

Srinagar : Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to reconsider and lift the recently imposed ban on the Awami Action Committee (AAC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM), citing their long-standing service to Kashmir.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday Hakeem expressed deep concern over the Central Government’s decision to impose a five-year ban on AAC, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and JKIM, headed by Masroor Abbas Ansari, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA). He emphasized their significant contributions to Kashmir’s socio-political and religious landscape. “These organizations have played an important role in Kashmir’s history and have served the people for decades. Given their immense contribution, the government should reconsider its decision and lift the ban,” Hakeem said. He appealed Central Government to adopt a more inclusive approach that fosters dialogue and engagement rather than alienation. “At a time when efforts should be focused on restoring peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, it is essential to involve all stakeholders in constructive discussions rather than imposing restrictions,” he added. Hakeem urged the Central Government to review the decision in the larger interest of stability and harmony in the region. He reiterated his commitment to advocating for the democratic and constitutional rights of J&K People.
