Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested 14 illegal mining operators for being involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Kulgam and Awantipora besides seizing 14 vehicles from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a Police party of Police Post Mirbazar seized four vehicles (2 Tippers and 2 Tractors) for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals besidesarresting three drivers involved in the commission of crime.
Police in its statement further said that in Awantipora also a Police team of Police Station Khrew headed by SHO Police Station Khrew seized ten vehicles (6 L&Ts and 4 Tippers) and arrested their drivers for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at concerned police stations besides initiating further investigations Police in
the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood.
